Chico´s Chikens

It as been almost 2 years since i started living here at the farm. Recreating a life style. Inspired by creating along with nature different creations and learning from these. Towards sustainable and independent living in research of  new social and economic life style. But Most of all, Find the way of life that are more suitable to study and practicing yoga.

It has been a trip full of ups and downs.

1st few projects were to fix the house, make a yoga shala and grow my food.

First rule is to observe the elements during the four seasons in order to understand how to work along with these and not against.   

Second rule is to build with the materials available in the site and be creative. 

The first adventure was to have chicken´s
The first animal that could have the following three functions: Eggs, Compost & Manure,and tractors to cut weeds. ? 

Happy chickens  were feeding on grass and wild flowers. The eggs were delicious holding a yellow color like i used to remember from childhood. 

Then bakti was born.. the chickens never knew ... but their peace was about to end. :) 
Bakti is the farm dog who started chasing the chickens around the farm soon after she was 3 month old.   

It was time to build a chicken tractor......

These was a long process in which i learned amazing things about the art of making nots as well as how to use bamboo and triangles.... Some one named it chicken spaceship

Well the chicken spaceship was build in order to protect the chickens from bakti ( the dog ) and also the eagles who had already eaten 2 of my favorite chickens. ( the picture on the left shows what we found on one of the traps me  and my neighbor build. We were surprised to find a eagle. Beautiful and at the same time big and scary. With respect and admiration we let the eagle loose and she never eat one of our chickens again.  
I needed a tractor to clean the weeds and get the soil lose, At the same time i needed to fertilize the soil before i place some fava seeds on the ground.

How to do ? you do a chicken tractor. (The picture above is of our first invention. It worked very well and it resisted all types of weather. But i was having a problem. Many times it was me alone who had to move it and it was an almost impossible task since it was design to be moved by two people.

So we build a new one. Smaller... But it worked so much better.

I was so happy , and the chicken were even more
